Divorce and its Unpleasant Side
When people get married they enter into a legal contract – but unfortunately this contract is probably the easiest to break. Divorce has made things very easy for both husband and wife to break that legal contract and walk out when they have to go through that unhappy period in their life, even though it is temporary. Unfortunately marriage, the probably most important economic contract of our lives, is no longer protected as easily as it was several decades ago.
Doing some thinking, we can realize that many lawyers out there will basically fight nail and tooth protecting corporations in their contract relations or in a situation between you and your landlord, you and your doctor or car mechanic, but there is absolutely nothing they can do to stop or prevent you from breaking up and leaving your spouse. In fact, in many cases, many lawyers these days would even counsel you to break up your marriage and divorce your spouse and then discuss with you division of your property as the next logical step to take.
The contract that anyone can break at any time is marriage, and you are not going to be held responsible for it. Getting married in America is in fact very similar to doing business in Russia; everything is up for grabs and constantly renegotiated, and at the same time nobody has to keep their word. A lot of unhappy marriages are the same way.
